ViaVoice/Os 9.1/Speakpad trouble - Mac Applications & Software

Hi... We just got ViaVoice for my wife's computer, a 233mhz wallstreet running os 9.1. We installed it and then she read the passages to tune it, but then the troubles began. First it popped up the dialog saying it needed vm turned on, so we did (reboot). Then we try launching SpeakPad and it complains about not finding SpeechLib, so we reinstall the Text-To-Speech library from the os cd (reboot). Then it boots up and SpeakPad doesn't give the SpeechLib error anymore, but it doesn't do anything else either. SpeakPad just launches and immediately shuts down. I haven't found ...

    Default ViaVoice/Os 9.1/Speakpad trouble

    Hi...

We just got ViaVoice for my wife's computer, a 233mhz
wallstreet running os 9.1. We installed it and then she read
the passages to tune it, but then the troubles began. First it
popped up the dialog saying it needed vm turned on, so we did
(reboot). Then we try launching SpeakPad and it complains
about not finding SpeechLib, so we reinstall the Text-To-Speech
library from the os cd (reboot). Then it boots up and SpeakPad
doesn't give the SpeechLib error anymore, but it doesn't do
anything else either. SpeakPad just launches and immediately
    shuts down.

I haven't found anything in the faqs or online past
the "SpeechLib not found" error. We've got the ViaVoice
millenium edition with no patches 2nd hand.

Does this ring any bells for anyone?

    Thanks

This program does work, so I suggest:

    (1) Read the technical faq pretty carefully (it's clear you didn't do
    this beforehand):

    http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=0&q=speechlib&uid=vsg1537257
    bb3d1078f586256cf00062b74e&loc=en_US&cs=utf-8&cc=us&lang=en#8.1

    (2) Now reinstall the system, doing a clean install and making
absolutely certain you install all the necessary speech resources as
    part of this.

    (3) Make sure vm is on and that it is set high enough.

    (4) Reinstall ViaVoice from scratch and see how things go from there.

Having read the ViaVoice ReadMe and the faq (neither of which addressed
the condition i ran into), having reinstalled the speech resources from
the os cd and having uninstalled and reinstalled viavoice to no avail
(SpeakPad still starts up and immediately shuts down again), does anybody
    else have any other suggestions?

    Thanks
