video question
I have a horribly compressed (very grainy and distorted picture quality)
piece of video for an attract loop that I am asking my video guy to redo.
He's blaming the picture quality on the fact that I asked for Quicktime. My
client says they usually use MPEG for video and it looks fabulous. My video
guy acutally would rather use MPEG but wants to know the answers to these
questions before he does the video again:
1. MPG1 or MPG2?
2. Multiplexed stream or primary stream?
I've only used Quicktime and have no idea how to answer these questions.
And, no, my client doesn't know either. She just knows it was MPG video last
year.
Any information on the subject would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Re: video question
well, i dont think you can just blame it on quicktime, although i would go
for mpeg over quicktime given the choice. The problem with the grainy video
will be down to which compression codec they used. I have used the JPEG A
compression and its been ok, sorrenson 3 even better, and smaller file size.
As for the mpeg side of things, i'd say MPG2 as fot the stream i dont know
sorry!
Any one else?

Re: video question
Sue,
What will your end users be using to watch your video? I personally use QT
and have no problems. Have your alleged "video" guy go to any major motion
picture web site and watch a trailer (almost all of them use QT) then ask
him again why the video he compressed is so bad. Sounds like you have
someone there who doesn't know jack about video compression.
Now, to answer your questions. It depends on what equipment and software
your target audience will have. QuickTime will certainly work, but then you
will need to make sure that your end users have QT installed on their
computers. I use the Sorenson Professional 3 Codec and the quality is
awesome. You can have your "video" guy go to www.sorenson.com and download
a trial of the Sorenson Squeeze software...he can use one of the presets to
compress the video. I tweak all of mine instead of going with a
preset...but the presets give you an excellent starting point. You could go
with MPEG, but you will need to use either QT or a third party Xtra in order
for the end user to view the file. The MPEG Advance Xtra
(http://xtras.tabuleiro.com) is cross platform and will use the OS's native
video software (WMP or QT) to play the MPEG files. The other nice thing
about MPEG Advance Xtra is that it requires no additional installs to play
MPEG 1 files.
Regarding your other questions about MPEG...while MPEG 2 is the codec used
for DVDs it is not a good choice for computers. The main reason for this is
because your end users will need to have a special third party application
to view an MPEG 2 file. If you know that the end users will have an MPEG 2
decoder program on their computers, then go with MPEG 2. Otherwise stick to
MPEG 1. If you use MPEG 1 then your "video" guy's second question is moot.
Primary or multiplexed streams only apply to MPEG 2.
hth,

Re: Video Question
Open Flash. Import the motion file. Save it as Flash video. This will
save two files - an *.flv file, and a *.swf player skin file.
Drop the player swf file on your page, and upload them both including the
flv file.

You can use a tool that can convert video to flash directly, then embed
the flash on your website.
Suggest you try Video to Flash Encoder, which can convert
videos(including MOV,AVI, WMV,ASF,MPEG,MPG,etc) to flash formats (SWF
and FLV).
If you want to learn more ,come here:

Or if you don't how to use it, check the tutorial guide
http://www.flash-on-tv.com/video-to-flash-guide.html
Good.
