Default Viewing Results of CSS Styles Application

Most of the time when I create a style in CSS and apply it, I see the change in
the Dreamweaver document. However, when I use a class and the block category to
set word spacing, I don't see the results when I apply the class. But when I
preview it in a browser, I see the change. Is this normal?

Oddly enough, if I change the letter spacing using the block category, I do
see the results in the page without having to preview in a browser.
