Vista Beta 1 (Build 5112) over VMWare Workstation 19175 - Windows Vista

Your English seems fine :o) Don't worry about it. However, Build 5112 has been out now for nearly of a year now and we're now on 5308 externally. Also, running a beta operating system, especially one with such graphics and technologies as Vista, is never a good idea to be run in a virtual machine. I recommend (as well as most developers and testers out there) a seperate machine altogether, or at most a seperate logical partition on a drive. -- Zack Whittaker Microsoft Beta (Windows Server R2 Beta Mentor) ZackNET Enterprises: www.zacknet.co.uk MSBlog on ResDev: http://msblog.resdev.net ...

There is nothing preventing him Zack from running it in a Virtual
environment. Its no different from running it on a machine with lowend
graphics, which most of us do. The only concern is the amount of RAM
allocated, how in heavens name did he get away with that amount of RAM 275?
I think for Virtual PC, the minium is 300MBs of RAM or it will give you
error message preventing installation. Also, I don't think there is an issue
with running 5112 which is BETA 1, which is concidered a high level quality
milestone build, compared to the CTP releases (5219, 5231, 5270 and 5308)
which are designated to be of a lower standard than BETA 1 or 2. Also, 5112
does not expire until September 2006.

If you are gonna run Vista in either VM Ware or Virtual PC, set the minimum
amount of RAM to at least 768, which means you need to upgrade your physical
amount of memory in the machine. It wouldn't hurt too to check out one of
the latest CTPs to see if any changes have taken place since in terms of
hardware and application compatibility.

Default Vista Beta 1 (Build 5112) over VMWare Workstation 19175

Hi:
Now I am running my Windows Vista Beta 1 (Build 5112) over VMWare.

In my first attempt, I had a problem when doing direct installation on my
hardware (Dual Boot) and I could not finish the installation of Vista.
(error: It cannot find HAL.DLL or something of the sort).

My hardware is and Dell Inspiron B120 (Notebook) with 512 Mb (DDR2) but the
Virtual Machine configuration use 276 Mb and only 10Gb (Used 4 Gb of 10).

I think that the problem maybe:
1 - noncompatibility with restore system of my Dell (Symantec Pc Restore for
Dell). The HDD have first hide partition (FAT), partition for OS and hide
partition for the restore image (compatible with GHOST).
2 - noncompatibility with BIOS of Dell.

But when I test over VMWare I could install without problems. The only
problems later of installation were the installation of a antivirus (with
AVG 7.1.375 Server Edition, error on NTFS.SYS and blue screen) and
noncompatibility with the audio Drivers (with VMWare Tools). I'm installa
MSN Messenger 7.5.0324 without problem

You could test it?

I would like to listen to your experiences about Vista over VMWare, Virtual
PC or other software of Virtual Machine of OS.

Excuse me for my poor English skill.

Thank you.
