Like many people on here, I'm getting a 30-second "Waiting for Server" message every time I connect via DW to my work's server. Also, like other people, I notice that I don't get any delay when connecting w/ DW to a different server, or when using a different FTP client to connect to the work server. The "Waiting for Server" problem seems to be unique to the DW/my-work-server combination.

Here's what I have found out:

1) I'm using NAT (on a LAN), and so (I'm pretty sure) is my work
-- one of the Macromedia techs posted something once about (DW-w/-NAT)-to-(Server-w/-NAT) connection problems being "unavoidable"
-- that is, until either the client or the server bypasses NAT (somehow), the "Waiting for Server" messages are inevitable

2) if I disable NAT, my DSL modem stops working (bad)
-- I can't telnet to it, ping it, or talk to the rest of the internet
-- I'd rather not give up NAT if that reduces my security

3) "Passive FTP" makes no difference

4) DW-via-SSH doesn't work for me
-- it connects quickly (no 30-second "Waiting for Server")...
-- ...but then freezes when it does the first LIST command...
-- ...which causes a "Waiting for Server" and an eventual timeout
-- I tried using different tunnelling options, but never got past the first LIST command

5) other people at my work have had the same DW problems
-- some of them set their modems to "disable block wan request"
-- none of them have the same modem as me
-- most of them use a different ISP too

Does this ring any bells? If you're having similar problems, do you have the same sort of configuration? Have you tried the same things? With similar results?

Ideas anyone?

Thanks a ton!
