Re: Want to add font book font's to IllustratorCS font's
Laurie: I've had success by dragging them into the Fonts folder within the Illustrator CS folder. Same thing with Photoshop.

Linda
I opened Illustrator CS under the Applications and went to font's folder within the program and tried dragging a font in there and it would not go. Matter of fact when I open the font folder under Illustrator it doesn't show any fonts. It shows Composite Fonts folder then under that it shows Temp folder and there is nothing in it. So where do I drag the font to?
Thank you for replying and please walk me thru this, I really appreciate this.

Re: Want to add font book font's to IllustratorCS font's
Laurie,
Not sure what the problem is. I forgot to mention that I do option drag my fonts so they copy into the folder rather than just move. I copy them into the Fonts folder that is inside the Illustrator folder.
I wonder if your permissions are set up to let you do this. Try clicking once on your Font folder to select it only. Then do Command-i to get information. Make sure it says you have permission to Read and Write under Ownership and Permissions.
BTW, If I'm missing the target here... please someone else feel free to jump in.

Re: Want to add font book font's to IllustratorCS font's
BTW Laruie... I have not tried this with a large amount of fonts. I only use it when I can't get certain ones to work with FontBook... whatever reason I that is, I have yet to find out.

I tried holding the option key down and dragging the font from my font book to Illustrator font folder and it still didn't let me, I'm sure I'm not doing something right. Does your font folder show fonts in it when you open it in the program(under applications), wonder why it doesn't show the fonts that are in the program when I open the fonts folder in illustrator(under applications)? I only tried dragging 1 font in the Illustrator font folder.
I'm kinda wandering what good font book is when you can't use the font's in the programs.

Re: Want to add font book font's to IllustratorCS font's
I want to state off the bat that I don't have you're system, but maybe you can try a couple of things?
1. I heard Font Agent Pro was the way to go, by the way.
2. Are you sure FAP works like ATM by drag and drop?
3. The system is totally different, so what says it will work like you expect anyway?
4. Now I was going somewhere with this and I forgot.
OH!!! IS THE OS THAT DIFFERENT WHEN YOU CANT EVEN LOAD FONTS THE SAME? WHAT ABOUT .PPD'S?
Windows suck, Unix suck, now my favorite...Mac sucks.

Re: Want to add font book font's to IllustratorCS font's
Laurie,
I think I see what you are doing. I do not drag from Font Book. I drag the fonts themselves from other font folders into the Illustrator Font Folder. I keep a partition just to store unused fonts in. When I need them I generally activate them in Font Book. If I have trouble then I copy them into the app's font folder.
Hi Dee! :)
It's true that Font Agent Pro is probably the best way to go. I just got tired of buying Font Management Programs and having none of them ever work right. So I just work around the limitations of Font Book.

Re: Want to add font book font's to IllustratorCS font's
Hi Dee
Does your Illustrator font folder show font's in it? Mine don't, but I know they are there because they are there when I'm actually have Illustrator open. Where do you keep your partition of unused fonts at? Hope I'm not confussing you, I'm pretty confused!!!!!
So should I drag font's from maybe Classic OS9? I'm used to working with suitcase 3.0 and all's you have to do is double click on the font and it open's it in all the programs that you might be working in.
Thank's for replying

Re: Want to add font book font's to IllustratorCS font's
Laurie,
If you are using OSX, look in users/<yourname>/Library/fonts or users/<yourname>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/fonts. These are the two primary locations to keep fonts, esp. the application support folder so that they will be available for use by your Adobe applications.

Re: Want to add font book font's to IllustratorCS font's
Larry
I looked where you said and I found the correct font folder and added some in there and it worked!!! Thank you.
While I have you here can you tell me why one of my fonts looks jagged on the edges when i use it? Also I have alot of korean and japanesse that show up when I use Illustrator, I don't want them there but i don't see them in the font folder to delite them. So I disabled them in the Font Book thinking that would do it, but they still show up in Illustrator at the very last on the list, there is a line that seperates them from the regular fonts.
Thank you for replying.

Re: Want to add font book font's to IllustratorCS font's
Laurie,
Is the jagged edge only on screen or is it when you print? Type 1 Postscript fonts have 2 parts. A suitcase and a printer font. The suitcase should have files in it with a single A shown. If the file has 3As, then it is a TrueType font. You don't want both in the same suitcase. The printer font should have a large red A and the same name as the suitcase. If you have only the suitcase the font will display but not print. If you have only the printer font, it will print but be displayed jagged on the screen. You can move the Asian fonts to another folder labeled disabled fonts at any time.
