Warning 20225...Adobe PDF printer unavailable

I am having difficulty with a known problem - the PDF printer is not installed when Distiller 6 is installed on Win XP (Error code 20225). I have followed the procedure described in the Support Knowledgebase document 321546, but this does not help, due to two problems:

1. I originally installed the Distiller supplied with FrameMaker 7.1. This downscaled version of Distiller does not support the final "Help > Detect and Repair" step prescribed by Adobe's procedure.

2. I then downloaded the trial Acrobat 6.0.1 in the hope that installing the full version of Distiller would enable me to perform the full procedure; however, it is not possible to run the "Help > Detect and Repair" here either, as this requires install files that are not supplied with the trial version!

Apart from the fact that the recommended fix cannot be fully performed, it seems an unusually complicated way of installing a printer! It was much simpler with previous versions of Acrobat! Can anyone help?

Can you be more specific about your problem:

There is no printer installed if you are installing Distiller - only if you install the full version of Adobe Acrobat.

So what are you actually trying to achieve?

This sounds a dangerous path. Distiller comes with Frame, but that
isn't intended to set up a printer. If you set up a printer somehow
with this demo, the whole thing will stop working at the end of the
demo period.

Well, I'm not certain what installs the "printer". When producing a PDF directly from Frame, you select "Adobe PDF" - you used to be able to select any PS printer, if I recall correctly. But now "Adobe PDF" is listed (also in Windows) among the printers you can choose. When I install Distiller (not Acrobat) as part of the Frame installation (Distiller is included under the Frame directory on the Frame CD), the following error occurs: "Warning 20225: Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Setup was unable to create a new item: Adobe PDF Converter. The Adobe PDF Printer may be unavailable."

So I don't think installing the PDF Printer is dangerous - I think it's standard!

Oops - I may have been a bit unclear: "Adobe PDF" should be listed (also in Windows) among the printers you can choose. My problem is that it is no longer listed when I upgrade to Frmae 7.1, which it was for the Frame 6.0.
