    Default Warp effects with rotation

Is there any way I can apply an arc warp effect whose horizonal/vertical axes are *relative to an object* rather than absolute?

I'm drawing a map, and occasionally I'd like an arc warp on a diagonally-positioned road name. I type in the text, apply the warp, and it looks great. Then I rotate it, say, 20 degrees, and the warp axes don't rotate - and it looks ghastly.

Is there a way of applying the warp effect with relative axis rotation, but without losing the editability of the text?

    TIA

Default Re: Warp effects with rotation

Instead of applying the Warp from the Effect Menu, apply it from Object>EnvelopeDistort>MakeWithWarp. The object and its Effect will then rotate as a unit. To edit the text, select Object>EnvelopeDistort>EditContents.

However, I hope you are just using this for a few objects in your map, and not as the method for making a lot of street names follow the path of the street. For that, you would be better off using the PathType Tool to create PathType objects.

    Julz,

Or to do it faster, make your warped text standard, then Object, Expand and you can now rotate it without losing it's warped shape or changing it. However, text has been converted to Outlines and is no longer editable.
