extensions or files are needed to host that website on a microsoft platform.

You need to install the Windows platform web server, IIS, which is included
as part of the operating system. Although it can be run on a Windows client
machine, it's best to run it on a server OS such as Windows 2000 Server or
Windows Server 2003:
