Default web page not showing

I have uploaded several pages to the web from
publisher .htm file. The latest one however seems to load
fine but when I go to view it, nothing loads. All the
files seemed to transfer without prob. I have reloaded
this page 3 times. What can I check to see if something
is different with this page or wrong??? HELP please

I'm using Publisher 2002
http://kirtland.cc.mi.us/~parens7668/Publisher/
Like I said, this is the only page that would not show, I
can't think of anything I might have done different.

your url is for a directory, no page is specified.
If you load a default page named "index.htm" then the server will run that
page when addressing a folder. Otherwise you need to specify a page.

Are "you" using the correct file name?
you put a space in the file name.
I have no trouble accessing the url of
http://kirtland.cc.mi.us/~parens7668/Publisher/Scholarship1%20Brochure1.htm
Spaces should NOT be used in web page file names. Nor upper and lower case.
Web page file names should be all lowercase and with no spaces. If you must
separate words use dashs or underscores. For more do's and don't see my web

David,
Does the page load for you? When I try and view it on the
web, the page remains blank. The file name is correct (on
my end) and as far as I know there are no spaces in the
uploaded URL.
I really need to figure this out. It will drive me nuts
if I don't. Anything else I should try??

There IS a space in the file name/url.

There is a space in the page name. Could that be causing your problems?

I see the page just fine. I'd like to make two suggestions. One, can the
music! Gawd I hate when people do that. It's annoying. Two, change your
capitalization on the word "Engineering" in the school's name and lose the
capital W in website.

For one second just PRETEND that you are really a professional. Take a deep
breath and instead of telling the op what YOU hate, try "Having music play
when the homepage loads is considered annoying by some people and causes the
page to load more slowly. You might want to reconsider having the music

Now we can see whay you're an MVP. It's good that even a grade 6 "graduate"
knows about capitalization. Too bad the rest of your skills are
significantly below that level.

I assume you are aware that

works fine. Including the music...

I don't see anything in the directory with the name:

I don't know whether he is adding that space in the URL he gave to his
instructor, do I???

Plus it seems that some servers don't handle spaces well, others are okay
with it. I'm not a whizkid on servers. I know that the server *my* host uses
doesn't seem to be affected by spaces in my page names.

And Tech27 - bite me.

David,
I did use your URL and I even re-saved my file as a web
page with no spaces in the URL. I still can's get the
page to load??? What gives. You see it, 2 other people on
this site say they can see it (even critiqued it not
knowing it was a college assignment). I am completely

Tami,

I'm fine about all of this. Some people take things waaaaaaay too seriously.

As I said, I could see your page just fine but I clicked on the file that
was listed in your Publisher folder. Double-check the link you gave your
instructor. Hope your assignment goes well.

You can add that to your list of things you don't know.

"Servers" don't decide what to handle and what not to handle. All web
servers use standard protocols for handling urls. This is an internet thing,
not a server things. And being binary machines, they either do something or
they don't. Except for speed, "well" or "not well" is better applied to
steaks.

I'm not a whizkid on servers.

"Whizkid"? You haven't a clue. What's the difference between a virtual
server and a regular web server? What are the (or just one) difference
between a Windows server and an Apache server? Go ahead and look it up on
the web.

I know that the server *my* host uses

Pray tell what type of server is your website hosted on? Do you even know?

Now we're getting to see your strategy. If you can't bullshit them,
antagonize them.

Maybe you could help me with this question:

How does one go about contacting Microsoft to have them take away an idiot's
MVP status?

Yeah. They get all out of shape when someone points out how little then know
and then start telling them to "bite me".

How about a real answer Tami?

You seem to be using the URL you used to upload your page. Your web page URL
should point to the server and the file "index.htm" or "index.html". The
idiot JoAnn was able to open your page by double clicking on one of the
files. She says that she's a Publisher MVP but I think she's a lunatic
pretending to be one.

The url you gave is incorrect.
http://kirtland.cc.mi.us/~parens7668/Publisher/

I've looked all through it and I can see that you have several pages, but no
index file. If you want these files accessible via links on one home page,
you need to link them to the home page. In fact, it would appear that you
created these pages separately. In any event, whether you want them to be
separate pages or linked from one (ie-several websites or just one) you need
to use the "Publish to Web" option in Publisher. This will put all the
elements together as a web page and create the all important "index.htm" as
your home page. If you have any more questions or need some help I would be
happy to assist.

Hope your assignment goes well.

It won't if you listen to JokeAnn.
