Web Photo Album 2.2
After creating an album with Web Photo Album 2.2, the preview in the browser
looks and works great. However, when I upload it to my web site and then view
it on the internet, the thumbnails do not show up on the index page (all other
links and everything else works fine). I have opened the index page in
Dreamweaver and checked all links and sources and they appear to be correct. I
even deleted the sources for the thumbnails and replaced them. That did not
work either. Why would it work in the preview, but not on the web? I am using
a Mac G4 Powerbook with OS 10.3.8, Dreamweaver 2004 and Fireworks 2004.
Please help - I have been trying to figure this out for 2 days.

Re: Web Photo Album 2.2
A sample gallery is at: http://www.larlaw.com/album1
There are additional examples if you change the "1" to "2", "3", and "4'.
Album1 and album2 were created from images in a folder on my desktop and album3
and album4 were created from images in a folder in my root folder. It did not
seem to make a difference where the folder was located. What really puzzles me
is that everything works great in the web preview -- something is happening
when I upload the albums.
I did notice that when the original image folder is located on my desktop, I
can load the entire folder at once. But if the original image folder is within
my local root folder, then I have to load one image at a time (the folder
option does not work). Is this normal and is it ok to have the original image
folder somewhere other than in the root folder?

Hey Iseband, looks like we have opposite problems. My thumbnails don't work
but links to the images do. Your thumbnails work but links to images don't.
What the &%?$ is going on? I hope someone can help us.

However, when I try to go to that URL I get a forbidden error message.
If the image is actually in the correct place online, then you need to
make sure that the thumbnails folder has the proper permissions for
viewing publicly on the web.
I don't use this extension so I can't say if it is normal or not. I'd> I did notice that when the original image folder is located on my desktop, I

guess that it is not normal, but have no suggestion as to what the issue
might be.

I get a forbidden message when trying to access that image. Please make
sure that the file is in the correct place online and that you have
permissions set correctly.

Re: Web Photo Album 2.2
Dan,
Thanks for your reply. I double checked the location of the thumbnail and it
is at: http://www.larlaw.com/album1/thumbnails/05.jpg
I also checked the permissions for that folder and contents -- it is set to
read and write for me and read only for access and others.

all the files are there, but when I click on them in that view, I get the
'forbidden' message.
You're on an Apache server. Is there a .htaccess file in that directory,
or the one above it?
Another thought: I'm not particularly fond of Web Photo Album anyway. One
of the problems with it is that if you want to change anything about a
page, you have to rebuild the whole thing. You may want to consider
another dynamic way of displaying pictures. I personally like Singapore
(http://singapore.sourceforge.net/), although there are others out there.

Re: Web Photo Album 2.2
The quest for a solution continues. After doing many more tests, I have
concluded that the problem is not with Web Photo Album 2.2 since I built a web
photo album within Photoshop and it works fine in the web preview. But, as
soon as I upload it to my web site with Dreamweaver it blocks access to the
thumbnails only. Everything else works fine.
Therefore, my conclusion is that Dreamweaver is doing something in the process
of uploading which blocks access to the thumbnails. See
http://www.larlaw.com/album1/thumbnails/05.jpg
The file is there but access is blocked. It can be viewed in the web preview,
but Dreamweaver is screwing up something in the uploading process. How can
this be? Has anyone else experienced this?
Now that I have eliminated Web Photo Album 2.2 as the problem, I will post
this in another forum.

matter what to. Then re-upload the whole album. Are the thumbs visible
with the renamed directory?

by DW or your server settings remains to be seen.
Perhaps a couple of tests:
1. Upload a file (maybe an image and a PDF) to the thumbnails folder
using a different FTP program and see if the forbidden issue remains. If
so, then I think that narrows it down to server settings.
2. Locally, within DW, drag all the thumbnail images out of the
thumbnail folder and into the Album1 folder (allow DW to update the file
paths). Upload the images to the Album1 fodler remotely and see if they
work. If they do, then the issue is absolutely the server settings for
that folder, as DW wouldn't change the way it uploads files based upon
the remote folder. If they do not show up, then while it is still
possible that server settings may be the issue, it certainly looks like
DW may be modifying the files permissions.
A way to modify permissions from with DW would be to get the Set
Permissions extension:
http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm#view=sn106&extid=1013102
Then in the remote file, right click and set the proper permissions.

Re: Web Photo Album 2.2
I hope I am posting this message in the right place. If not please forgive my
error and point me to the right place?
I am trying to use the tutorial "Web Photo Album ? Part 1: Using the Web Photo
Album" and get stumped at the first steps! :( I am trying to use the
downloaded images provided with the tutorial. I am running Fireworks MX 2004
version 7.0.2.295. When I attempt to do the batch process, I get to the screen
where I can choose the location for the output of the scaled files, I see
buttons called "save script", "back" and "cancel" The "batch" button is not
available to me.
Perhaps I am missing a step here?
I cannot move forward in the tutorial until I am able to batch file the
images. I know of another way to resize the images, but I am trying to follow
this tutorial from start to finish.
Can anyone point me in the right drection so I can continue with my learning?
THANKS!

Re: web photo album 2.2
you can find it on the dreamweaver exchange but the easiest way is to go to the
link below & follow the instructions. the link is actually a series of
articles on using web photo album 2.2. they are very helpful articles & will
save you a lot of headaches if you follow the author's step by step
instructions. the only thing that's not there - make sure you choose save
instead of open when you are downloading extensions
