Web Sites with Log In capability - Web Design

I am building a website and i'd like to add a members only page. How can add the functions to keep a role of members and have them log in to access a special page? Right now I am using MS publisher 2002. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Craig...

What you speak of is in the realm of web programming versus web design.
Publisher has no capabilities for web programming.
Web programming is platform specific, for example if using a Windows web
server the programming would be done with ASP or ASP.Net. Additionally the
    database chosen is platform specific.

I suggest you speak with the ISP you have your website or web host with
about setting up a password protected directory at your site. They may
have information posted regarding this. You will also get plenty of hits
for information if you perform a web search for "password protecting
    website".
