Re:web statistics...
The Internet viewing standard is still 800 by 600 resolution. I develop using 1024 resolution on my monitor but I insure the site is totally viewable without horizontal scrolling for 800 by 600 browsers.
If you want to build a site that accommodates both then you can use relative (%) positioning with in the html page rather than hard coding the table size. This will not help you with flash sites you will still need to design for 800 by 600 resolutions but it is not necessary to develop with that resolution as long as you test your work by changing your monitors resolution on your desk top.

Re: web statistics...
It's almost 50 - 50 right now between 1024*768 and 800*600 resolutions.
I'd make sure that most important stuff like navigation fits into 800*600
window without any scrolling. Content can extend further down if necessary.

Re: web statistics...
If you want a site that's going to tell you the status of the users of your site, try http://www.statcounter.com. And by the way Airmar and D.Garnett, the internet viewing standard is mostly between 768x1024 and 1024x1280.
Here is the status of some site during the last month: (number of users+resolution)
42 1024x768
30 1280x1024
8 800x600
7 1600x1200
7 1152x864
6 unknown
