WebDav Server has moved. How do I correct for IP checksum?
Hi, I’m going to break this message down into the following parts. 1) what has happened 2 yrs ago. 2) what just happened and 3) what I am looking for and 4) what are other possible solutions.
1) what has happened 2 yrs ago
We moved the webdav server from one IP to another with out changing the domain name just the IP. This was from one part of the city to another. We encounter no problems at all with the comments and saw all past histories. This had the server first on a public IP and then onto a NATed IP. We had no problems at all. All past comments could be viewed.
2) what just happened
We have moved the server from one IP to another and at the same time had to change the DNS server. The DNS Server changed one week before and no issues arose from this. When we moved the server IP from one subnet to another which is also NATed the previous comments were not visible but new ones could be created and viewed. It appears that some people on the internal network can see the old comments still but external people on the net can not.
3) what I am looking for
I know that Acrobat uses the URL to the file to create a checksum and the checksum is then used to name the folder the FDF comments are stored in. There does not seem to be consistency in the logic of a IP based URL or domain based URL when creating the checksum. This is just from past history of our migrations. I know the paths or URLs to all the PDFs that have comments. I would only need to change the domain to the IP in the path. Is there a way of creating these checksums outside of Acrobat such as a md5 or crc. I do not know how acrobat creates its checksum. I would then create a script that would create symbolic links from the existing folder to a new sym link with the new checksum path. Is there such a checksum available or API to one.
4) Are there other possible solutions to get the comments back from 6 years of comments.
Thanks

Re: WebDav Server has moved. How do I correct for IP checksum?
Ray,
The webdav settings are baked into the PDF - so there doesn't seem to be
any movement here unless you hack the PDF - something I have never tried
in this case.
Comments can be EXPORTED and IMPORTED manually between documents - just
go hit the COMMENTING tab on the left side of the Acrobat window ...

Re: WebDav Server has moved. How do I correct for IP checksum?
I guess two issues with the current setup we have is that whe have about 15000+ PDFs and that the PDFs are on the same server as the WebDav Server so their paths changed.
15000+ PDFs to save their comments into and then place back into the right place on the server is a lot of work.
Thanks
