Mode and check to see if the pictures are in RGB or CMYK color. I'm betting the ones that show up with a lighter blue are in RGB mode and the darker ones are CMYK. If you are making these pictures for viewing on the web, they should be in RGB mode. Weird color pallette problem in Photoshop - Mac Applications & Software

I've had a strange problem with the color pallette in Photoshop (v. 3.0.5) crop up out of the blue the past week and I was hoping someone in these groups would have some idea how to correct it. I've had a strange problem with the color pallette in Photoshop (v. 3.0.5)
crop up out of the blue the past week and I was hoping someone in these
groups would have some idea how to correct it.

I run a website with a news section that I update regularly, and I like to
make small 66 x 99 pixel pics of the news subjects' faces. What I do is
make an 66 x 88 pixel pic, put a black border around it, then put it in a
66 x 99 pixel area so there will be room at the bottom to put the persons'
last name. When I select a color that I can fill in around the name and
"transparency" out, usually the first blue in the 122-color swatch pallette
(the fourth color from the left at the top), the blue has suddenly been
showing up a few shades lighter than the blue in the pallette when I use
the bucket tool to pour the color in. While I'm still able to successfully
transparency this lighter shade of blue out, I'm wondering why it's
suddenly lighter than the blue in the swatch pallette. If anyone can
suggest how to correct this -- perhaps a way to tweak Photoshop's
preferences to get the pallette to behave normally again and/or adjust the
"gamma"(?) -- I would appreciate it.

Check the color mode you are using for the pictures.
    From the menu go to:
    Image--->Mode
and check to see if the pictures are in RGB or CMYK color.
I'm betting the ones that show up with a lighter blue are in RGB mode and the
    darker ones are CMYK.
If you are making these pictures for viewing on the web, they should be in RGB
    mode.

Well I'm making GIFs so the images need to be in Indexed mode from RGB mode
they start out in before they're saved. I've never dealt with the CMYK mode
    at all.

I tried the dependable old preference-trashing trick and the colors seem to
be working normally now. Apparently that file became corrupted somehow (or
just too big -- it was 204K and the new one is half that size).

    I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
