Weird error "4"
Out of the blue, a Quark 5 doc. that was distilling beautifully last night is now crashing when I try to make a postscript file to then distill. No error message appeared. Firstly I narrowed the problem down to a particular page, but now any page that I try to make a ps file crashes Quark. With this I get a dialogue pop up window, but all it has in it is the numeral "4". I dont know what this is or how to find out.
I am running OS10.2.8 with Quark 5 and Distiller 5 both through classic. The crash doesnt crash the classis system, just Quark.
I always make a pdf by saving as a postscript file, then opening distiller and converting the postcript to pdf.
Help greatly appreciated

Re: Weird error "4"
It's may be a QuarkXPress 5 bug. Download the 5.01 update.

Re: Weird error "4"
Thanks for the reply Steve. I should have been more specific, I am running Quark 5.01. In this instance the problem is not Virex or anti virus software as I have them switched off. I have tried rebooting, correcting permissions and running Tech Tools and Mac janitor with no joy. I have also tried switching off OPI. Im thinking the problem is more Quark than distiller, or something to do with the postscript driver. Any additional troubleshooting ideas would be great

Re: Weird error "4"
Just dump the Xpress Prefs from
Quark/
Otherwise, create a new Quark document (exactly the same size) with
exactly the same parameters such as facing pages on/off.
View both layout side-by-side and then drop the pages from old layout
into new layout ....

Re: Weird error "4"
Thanks for the reply Jon. After much troubleshooting, it turned out to be a placed tif file in the quark doc. had spontaneously corrupted. Very strange. Once I dumped that image (resaved in Photshop), all worked fine. I’m still none the wiser as to what error message "4" is, the quark website didnt shed any light, and even when I rang them , the tech. support guy couldnt tell me. I’ll have to look into it further for next time.
Thanks for the input.
