Weird page/print sizes

Hi there -

I am using Illustrator 9 on Mac, running in Classic. I have an hp officejet printer installed on my system.

I have noticed that in new documents I create, the page tiling area is larger than my artboard. If I open the document setup and check "use page setup" I get an artboard size of 11.44x8.83 for letter and 14.56x8.83 fro legal. scaling in page setup is set to 100%

I can't get around this no matter what I do , I tried choosing laserwriter 8 in the chooser to no avail. If I can get Illustrator to print, it usually prints the correct size, however, if I save as a pdf file, the pdf file gets shrunk and I can't get it to print the correct size.

What gives? I have used Illustrator for years and now it's behaving very weirdly.

Illustrator 9.0.2 ?

Looks like 9.0. I'll look for an update here. It seems like a bug and not user error.

Still no luck after updating to Illustrator . Letter page size still stubbornly stuck at 8.83x11.44.
