have a cmyk 13"w x 11"h indesign CS file from which i need a cmyk pdf file. files are color managed (SWOP) the whole way thru. in distiller, i set up a modified 'high quality' setting with page size 13"w x 11"h, naming it 'high quality 13x 11'.
from indesign cs, i do a 'file: print' command. then are these the exact steps?:
step 1- go to 'page setup' (selecting page attributes, adobe pdf, 13wx11h custom page size)
step 2 - go into 'printer' button, selecting printer: adobe pdf; pdf options: 'high quality 13x 11', printer features: 2400dpi, hit 'print' then 'save' to name file & choose location. OR is this redundant, since i selected 'high quality 13x 11' in distiller?
step 3 - set up print tabs: general, setup (custom 13x11), marks, output (composite cmyk), graphics (all data, subset fonts, PSL 3), color mgmt (source space document, print space SWOP), advanced (high rez transp. flat.), save preset, then hit 'print'
please confirm.
6 to 9 months ago, numerous posts have said that it is BETTER to 'print to adobe pdf' than to 'export'. is this STILL the case? please confirm.
also in the past, i've seen it stated that zip or NO compression is best. please confirm.
as a test, i exported, using 'press' quality, modified to acrobat 5, & i got a 2.7mb file. when i 'print to adobe pdf' - steps 1 to 3 above - i get an 8.2mb file (jpeg, auto, max), 28.2mb file (zip), or 59.8mb file (NO compression). my publisher is asking for jpeg, auto, max specs. should i recommend the zip file? i am only using 56k modem & i believe they are as well. OR is the jpeg file good enough?
thanks a million in advance for clarifying these things for me!
