You should check with your printer to see if they have any specific advice. Otherwise, use the Press job option in Distiller.

there's no pdf/x setting to chose when using distiller 4, they're joboptions available only in distiller 6 pro.

Doug,
PDF/X is fine if you know how to create PostScript that meets the PDF/X spec so that Distiller will accept it. If not, the default is that Distiller will cancel the job and no PDF will be created. Some printers will only accept PDF/X files so that's why I recommended checking with the printer to see what they want.
