what happened to free extensions?
Since Adobe took this over, free extensions have gotten less and less. That was
the whole point of this forum. I dont blame Adobe, I blame us! Greed, whatever
has taken over. Most of us got paid at work to create these things. I'll share
(for free) anything I can do. What happened? We all paid a lot of money for
this program, which adobe deserves, it is an incredible program, but lets help
each other out here. Like the old days! Rex

Re: what happened to free extensions?
Economics? :)
I love free extensions as much as the next person, but I think there are
some who have built a business making extensions (i.e. Project Seven, Web
Assist) or server behaviors (UltraSuite, DMXZone) and for those people ..
this is their business. I think there are many more who created extensions
to help their work, but most likely invested a lot of time, much of which
was their own. Many extensions are just a few dollars .. I have no problem
with that. Others are more and those are the people in the business of
making extensions so this IS their job.
I buy what I need to make my life easier and 99% of the time, I pass on the
cost spread over two or three jobs that need to use it and I retain of
having the extension for future projects. Win for me .. win for my client
(cause everything got done well quicker) and win for the developer.
That said, there are still free ones out there. Check out, for example, the
new Web Widgets category on the Exchange!

The point of this forum is to help folks get extensions working or perhaps to find an extension that does a specific function, it was never to focus on free extensions. Not quite sure where you've gotten that idea from, but I've been a frequent visitor to this forum for at least 6 years and it's never been "the whole point of this forum".> Since Adobe took this over, free extensions have gotten less and less. When it comes down to it, when you get beyond very basic functionality, it takes a lot of effort and knowledge to create a really useful extension, if you're willing to put that effort in, then please by all means post what you've done so that others can see what you've done. Others are already doing their share as there are plenty of free extensions out there, the Adobe Exchange lists 865 free extensions when I searched and filtered on Freeware:

My employer WebAssist also has several, to name just a few:
