What video format(s) are people using for the web - Mac Applications & Software

I am producing video for the web pro-bono for a non-profit organization. From what I can tell, Microsoft refuses to fully implement the mp4 ISO standard. Consequently, QT PRo and Cleaner 6 mp4 files won't play on windows systems without 3rd party plugins. On principle, I don't want to create Windows Media Format. I would like to create a QuickTime MP4 and Real Player format for users to choose but neither Real Producer or Cleaner 6 support native OS X. From what I can tell, Microsoft refuses to fully implement the mp4 ISO
standard. Consequently, QT PRo and Cleaner 6 mp4 files won't play on

I would like to create a QuickTime MP4 and Real Player format for users
to choose but neither Real Producer or Cleaner 6 support native OS X.
Cleaner 6 is out of date and Sorenson Squeeze for the Mac does not
support Real (Windows version does). FCP 4 only supports QuickTime
    formats.

Getting a Windows machine is not an option. Is there any good Mac OS X
software that supports formats other than QuickTime formats?

Try encoding (exporting from QuickTime Pro) with either the 3ivx codec

    http://3ivx.com/

    or the Divx codec

    http://www.divx.com/

Both are available for free, and both are Windows-friendly. I'm not
sure if you can export an .avi from QT Pro using those codecs, but it
    might be worth investigating...

What? Maybe you have an OS9 flavor of Cleaner 6, but mine is fully
    Aquafied.

My question is why not Quicktime? Apple is not so arrogant as
Microsoft, so Quicktime is a cross-platform format.
