Default What was used on these sites?

Hi.

I need to update my plain HTML site. I'm new to Flash MX 2004 and I had a few questions. Am I using the right program? I bought some Flash MX How-to books and I am beginning to get the hang of action scripting, but some of these sites are confusing me. Like: http://www.trendax.com/ or http://www.billybussey.com, for instance, was all of this done in Flash or were the interfaces and logos done in a modelling program. I guess I'm asking should I do individual animations in other programs and import into Flash as a....?
Also all of the effects on the computer screens, can I do that in Flash or should I do that in another program and import into Flash as a movie clip? I like how the effects glow like a moniter. Thanks in advance. Those tutorial books are great for basics but they leave a lot out.

If you right click on a flash movie you can zoom in(if the creator has not disabled that, like most people do that know how).

You can zoom in and see that those sites have tons of imported graphics, made in other programs. Some might argue that especially the second site(bill) has too much imported graphics. "Dreams of a 3D internet" actually turns out to be same as before: movies.

I personally think they are very neat, although death to dial-up users. :)

So in the end, you can do some neat stuff within Flash, but you are limited.

here's a cool site that uses only a few imported images(main page backgrounds):
http://www.2advanced.com/archive/v3/flashindex.htm
http://www.2advanced.com/archive/v3/flashindex.htm

So in the end, there's a balance: some stuff you'll want to do in PhotoShop or a 3Dmodeler, but you can do alot with Flash.

Good luck!
cheers

Hey thanks mate!

OK that helps a lot. One more quick question. I just want to make sure I'm on the right track. I'll figure out the tech myself: On the one site, http://www.trendax.com/flashframes.html ,do you think the fake LCD screen bit (+ animations) were created in Flash? I'm preparing for a long weekend of searching for tutorials over the web. If I know what to look for (like glowing letters) that would help alot.

Thanks again for the assistance.

the LCD wasn't made in Flash. I would suggest using inner dropshadow, bevel, and glow to get that sort of effect. Those are some real basic effects found in any paint app.

some of the glow is simply a manipulation of color. many of the thin glowing lines are acctually just plain vector lines, but the color has been chosen to contrast/blend the background so it makes it look "glowy"

cheers
