What's best for image sharpening?
Without much effort I found several image sharpening "programs" that all claim to be the best and work in some unique way. In addition to unsharpen mask in PSE 2 there is Lab-Sharpen, Fhoto Fix, Ultrasharpen, Clarifier, and so on. What works best on sharpening images and improving focus on scanned photos? Is there any comparison I can refer to?

Re: What's best for image sharpening?
Steven,
I cannot answer your questions completely. However, recently someone posted a technique which is quite effective:
1. Duplicate layer
2. Go to filter>other>high pass with setting 10%
3. In the layers palette on that layer, set "hard light" and apply opacity 30-70%
You may wish to compare this to "unsharpen mask"

Take a look at this: <http://www.lonestardigital.com/photoshop_quicktips.htm#clarifier>
It seems to work for me.
