When I click agree and install a blank box appears witha red X

Hi, ive been having a problem installing shockwave player for IE recently.

The problem is that when i click "agree and install shockwave player" the next
page (where it is meant to show the installation progress) comes up with a
white box with a red X top left corner. It seems when i try and re download
shockwave off the shockwave website, it goes straight to the installation page
and doesn't show the active X warning (I don't know if this is relevant). I can
however download it on download.com but then there it doesn't seem to install!
The same red X comes up when trying to load games on internet explorer that
require shockwave.
I am running Windows XP SP3 with Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 (however,
this problem was before i had KIS2009). All suggestions would be greatly
appreciated! Nick

Further note: This problem only occurs with shockwave player download, flash downloads and installs normally.

Try running the un-installer and then (download and) run the full
standalone installer

Ive tried it, but still when i uninstall it, it goes straight to the installation rather than the download :S and the same happens with the red X

I'm not understanding something. From your reply it seems you are
visiting the installer page, whereas I'm suggesting you download the
standalone installer (note: you should close your browser before running
it). The standalone installer should be a Windows executable file.

Yes, when I uninstall shockwave player then go to the alternates page and
select: the full installer for shockwave 11 and click that, it takes me to the
installer page "Agree and Install Now" rather than first downloading it. I
don't however seem to have this problem with firefox.

FYI: I had the exact same problem and the fix recommended worked for me. I
saved the uninstaller from [url]www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/[/url] to my
desktop, closed my browser and ran the uninstall. I also rebooted my computer,
just in case is it made any difference, then I went back to the link above and
clicked on the full install, and this time the install shield appeared and I
was able to load Shockwave without any further problems.

i had the same problem last time around when i tried to download an adobe shockwave player,on my ultimate,but things went ok when i downloaded it on the Xp,wonder why?

well I thought that would work...but I still get the 'sorry your platform not supported" message
