Where is the 'deal' on Video Collection Pro?

Default Where is the 'deal' on Video Collection Pro?

I am looking forward to the updated versions of AE, Premiere and the new apps Audition and Encore (plus 'old'
Photoshop 7). These are all offered in the professional edition of the Video Collection for $1499.

Got a problem though ... I feel Adobe should offer a better discount on the pro version to registered users of AE and/or Premiere and/or Photoshop. I have all three programs so I qualify for the individual upgrade versions.

Is my math faulty here? As a registered owner of Photoshop, I can upgrade for $149. As a registered owner of Premiere, I can upgrade for $199. Likewise, I can upgrade my AE Pro to the new version (not including Zaxwerks Invigorator) for $299. Then, if I want Audition I can buy that for $299 and Encore DVD will cost $549. That comes out to $1495 total and I do NOT get Invigorator. Now, if I buy the pro version of the Video Collection (no need to own any previous version), it costs just $4 more at $1499. PLUS, I get the Invigorator for free.

Where is the appreciation (e.g. price break)for existing users? Adobe Sales, if you are listening, please address this. Or tell where my math is wrong ...

I am posting this in the After Effects, Photoshop, and Premiere forums since it applies to all.

Your logic is a bit flawed, I believe.

The prices you *should* be adding up are the full retail, non-upgrade prices. Then the $1499 starts to look like a real deal.

You are already getting a discount for upgrading, and for being a good customer, and yet you want to be charged even less?
(The "upgrade" versions of the software are identical to the full-price versions - the only difference is the price.)

The discount is clearly intended to lure NEW customers.

You are already being given a price break as an upgrade customer. Relax and be happy.

Um, let's try a little logic here, shall we?
If you already have all the programs, you don't need the package, and yes, you can upgrade saving a whole $4 on the new package.

Unless you are truly an uber graphics geek, needing every upgrade imaginable, the package is neither intended, nor marketed to previous owners. It is intended to lure designers into the capabilities offered by Adobe for those still unenlightened.

Regardless of the discounts you feel you are entitled to as a "registered owner," the real world just doesn't seem to want to run that way. Qwitcherbellyaching, and buy the entire suite, splurging the $4 on yourself, or upgrade those apps you truly utilize regularly and get over yourself, appreciating the wonderful package deal Adobe offers for the whole shooting match.

You sound to me like a cranky geek who never had enough friends to learn
how to speak to other people. Go watch Star Trek and leave everyone alone.

Speaking of manners, would you be trying to insult Star Trek fans with your comment? Sort of a personal attack on so-called geeks?

No, you're right, it's an insult to Star Trek fans to lump that guy in with them. Sorry trekkies. That should have been a personal attack aimed solely on him.

    Adam,

Ol' Whozit is a her I believe, not a him, and yes she is a very cranky person. I'd suggest you definitely not feed this troll. You're likely to pull back a stump.

    Pierre,

So far I've received a dead tree manual with every upgrade I've purchased though I prefer to learn from the WOW series of books and occasionally I'll buy the Classroom in a Book for the particular app I'm interested in.

Stuart, I've got at CIAB for PS7, but I disliked the fact that is is mostly in b&W (for the price...) and I never "got into is", while I highly enjoyed the two other books that I bought at the same time : real world Ps and PS Channel Chops, and thanks for the confirmation about the user guides.

It's people that act like O'W that renders this forum unuser frienly, at times...

They do, it's called an upgrade price. I'm not all that happy to see the upgrade prices creep up every now and then but that's a different issue altogether.

I agree wholeheartedly. Especially now that I want In Design and Acrobat. I feel I deserve some credit for already owning four Adobe applications.

Re: but i'm sure they'd make more $$$ if the package deal had incentives for existing users

Something tells me that there is more than one person in Adobe that does a great deal of work trying to determine exactly how to get the maximum amount of $$$ and euros, pounds, etc., from us all.

I suspect all manner of discounts are fed into the spreadsheet models and the ones that return Adobe the most profit are the ones that are used.

Just do NOT buy unless or until they offer a better deal to existing users.

I mean, you really only have two choices.

You can buy the package, or not. Complaining about the price is a fine old American tradition, but you are not being screwed by paying the price they offer.

Either buy it, or don't. The offer is on the table, and you can walk away if you wish. Frankly, I think it's a bargain.

What you are galled by is that other people might get the same bargain you are getting - isn't that true?

Adobe IS offering you a "thank you" price, Jake - it's the UPGRADE price.

I must admit I have shared your feelings, in a way. I was an employee of the local phone company, and as such was offered a discount rate on my DSL service of about $15 per month less than the general public.
Now, 6 months later, the standard rate for EVERYONE is only a dollar or two a month more than the "discount" rate I was given.

My initial reaction was the same as yours, but I've since shrugged it off. It's true my "discount" isn't as much as it was, but I'm still getting a good deal. I can't complain - and neither should you, IMHO.
