    Default Which JOIN ?

I have 2 tables: "first" and "second"

table "first" has 2 columns (id, a) and 2 records:
    id --- a
    1 --- apples
    2 --- pears

table "second" has 2 columns (id, b) and 2 records:
    id --- b
    2 --- lemons
    3 --- oranges

Which JOIN should I use in order to have the following?
    id --- a --- b
    1 --- apples --- NULL
    2 --- pears --- lemons
    3 --- NULL --- oranges

Basically, I would like a JOIN on the id field, which gives me all results.

    Thanks for your help!

    SELECT ...
    LEFT JOIN

    UNION

    SELECT ...
    RIGHT JOIN
