White Boxes around images when exporting to PDF
I'm finding when I export my documents to pdf for printing (press) occasionally I get the proof back from the printers showing the images with white boxes where they should be transparent.
when I check the files before I send they are fine, I am using indesign cs and acrobat 6.
could it be because the printers are using a different version of acrobat?
Please help!

I got the same issue going on. Cant offer any help, except, I'm
exporting a pdf from Illustrator 9, Acrobat 5, and same thing, when
using dropshadowed text.... ugly white box behind text. Sounds like a
similar problem. So I am not sure if it is because of your printer. It
migt be one of those pesky and confusing transparency-flattening
issues.
I havent found any solution except to bypass "Save as pdf" and
instead, print the file to a virtual postscript driver, I like the
Agfa one, save as a .ps file.
then open Distiller and select the .ps file and have Distiller make
the pdf. For some reason I cannot comprehend, this works perfectly.
Same file, but not white boxes.
Hopefully someone can shed some light on this.

Re: White Boxes around images when exporting to PDF
If you send them composite CMYK PDFs it's their RIP not handling transparencies properly.
One way can be to test separated (instead of composite) CMYK PDFs. Did you flatten your output as required?
