Make your gradient out of the black swatch. (for ease of viewing)
Select and copy the gradient.
While still selected, fill with solid white.
Paste the copied gradient in front. (control+f)
Select both white filled element and gradient and apply inverted clipped opacity mask through the transparency palette.
I assume you know that you will need it to be placed over a color backdrop for you to see it. You will also need to make the white swatch a spot color if you wish it to output as a separate plate.
