Default Why Adobe Sucks. Let Us Count The Ways...

1.) Tonight while attempting to read a .pdf help file on a newly built
computer Adobe's auto update dialog loaded and informed me that Version 7.0
of the reader was available. So I selected Version 7 and if I would not have
been paying attention before proceeding with a final installation
confirmation I would not have noticed...

I don't know what happened to you, but I upgraded to Version 7 some time ago
... I don't have a Yahoo toolbar and I have found it to be much faster than
    previous versions.

There is the Tick box option to install Yahoo toolbar, so you have the option.

The dialog consists of two side-by-side listboxes on a panel. The left side
listbox lists what can be installed. The right side listbox is emoty when
the dialog is first instantiated. The Yahoo toolbar is not listed anywhere
at this point. Highlight one item in the listbox (Adobe Reader 7.0 in this
case) and then elect the Add button to add the Adobe Reader 7.0 to the right
side listbox which contains a list of items that are to be installed.

Selecting and adding from the left side listbox resulted in two items being
added to the right side listbox. One item was the Adobe Reader 7.0 as
expected. Another item was added serrepticiously. That was a listing to
install the Yahoo toolbar. If not carefully observant that two items were
actually added instead of one item Adobe would have tricked somebody into
    installing the Yahoo toolbar.

That's why ADOBE IS MANAGED BY CORPORATE MARKETING SCUM

I agree with you that it's scummy, and in fact, I recently installed it when
I installed AR 7.0, because I wasn't paying the kind of attention that you
did. However, I also think you should know that it only installed a Yahoo
toolbar on my Acrobat Reader, not my browser.
