Why do my commands keep disappearing? (file, edit, doent, tools, etc.) - Adobe Acrobat Windows

using windows xp, acrobat 5.05 Why do my commands keep disappearing as I do things in Acrobat. First the "file" command will disappear, then the "edit", then the "doent", and so on. If I close the program and reopen, they will all reappear. This has been annoying, but tolerable. Now my "file" command will not come back. I have closed and opened the program several times, but it won't come back. Why is this happening and is there a fix?...

Have you noticed any pattern in the way things disappear (i.e., "File" menu disappears afer you do a "Save As"; "File" menu disappears when you click on a link)? Have you clicked anything in the "Window" menu? (If you open the "Window" menu and select "Hide Toolbar" for i.e., it will do so.)

Try pressing F7, F8 and/or F9 to see if this helps at all.

Not sure if there is a pattern. If I close (after a "save" or "save as") and reopen another file that usually gets the menu to begin deleting the choices one by one. I had not clicked anything in the "window" menu.

I did get the full menu to come back on, and opened and closed a few files to get the menu to begin deleting itself. Then I tried your suggestion of pressing F7, F8, and F9, but the full menu does not come back when I toggle back and forth with F9.

Thanks for trying. Any other ideas?

I'm afraid not at the moment. It sounds utterly bizarre - a 'Cheshire Cat Acrobat' as it were. You could always try re-installing to see if that helps; it is possible the program got 'corrupted' somehow. Maybe someone else will have heard of this strange behaviour.
