Default why do my photos not look good?

    Hi,
When I save a photo from the internet to my computer and then make it smaller in fireworks by clicking on the perimeter and dragging it smaller with the mouse it looks terrible - is there any way to prevent this or at least minimize it?
    (I am a beginner)
    thanks

Any time you resize a bitmap image, some degradation in quality will occur.

When you are resizing the image, are you doing so proportionately?

Resize the image by using Image Size to Resize... don't drag its edges!
Never resize bigger. Get out your manual!
