Default Why is Illustrator CS refusing to see my Epson Stylus printer?

In Illustrator CS (or Photoshop CS, for that matter) I can't select my USB-connected Epson Stylus C80. No other running application has any problem seeing the printer or printing to it. I've tried deleting and re-adding the printer through the Printer Setup Utility. I've quit/relaunched both Illustrator and Photoshop (since with CS they seem to be all the more joined at the hip) with no success.

This would have to be the day I threw out Illustrator 10 (which never had any problems with this printer).

Individual applications don't "see" printers, that's the operating systems job.

Can you select your printer and print from an application like TextEdit or any other application that supports printing? If you can, there's no reason AICS wouldn't.

The Adobe Illustrator CS print window doesn't show the normal "Print" dialog unless you click the "Printer..." button.

Is that what you're referring to? Just a guess.

    That's certainly what I thought. ; )

TextEdit and every other application shows the Epson under the "Format For" pop-up in the Page Setup window. Illustrator only shows "Adobe Postscript® File" for the "Printer" pop-up in its Print dialog. The "Page Setup..." button in that window is disabled. Photoshop's Page Setup from the system only shows "Any Printer" in "Format For".

The work-around I used for this case was to save the Illustrator file in PDF-compatible format (something AI 10 really got me in the habit of not doing) and printing it from Preview. It's odd that only Illustrator and Photoshop are having this problem, though.

So this is just me? Everyone else can print to USB non-Postscript inkjet printers?
