Default Why is the pixal diagram in level dialog box black?

Would anyone please help me to find out what is wrong for my Photoshop 7?
When I open either the Level, Curves or Replace color dialog box from the
Image->Adjustments drop down menu, the pixal/color diagrams are completely black. I have reinstalled the program, but it is still the same.
My system is PIII-450, 160MB RAM, GeForce4 MX 420 display card, using Window ME OS.
    Thanks a million.

As a diagnostic, open the System applet in control panel and click on the performance tab. Set Video Harware Acceleration to NONE. If the problem goes away, it's video drivers. Either udate them or roll them back a version.

Also try changing your display depth from 16 bit to 24/32 bit.
