Why would doing a 'Save As' make AI files usable in InDesign?
I just had a problem placing Illustrator files into InDesign. This thread. <http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?128@@.2ccfc34a>
Would someone satisfy my curiosity as to why doing a 'Save As' would make unplaceable AI 10 files placeable in InDesign 2.0.2?
What data would Illustrator be dumping/recreating to make this possible?
TIA

Ronald,
Did you have the PDF Compatible checked when you did the SaveAs?

Larry,
Yes. And I've informed my client in the past to make certain it's checked also. (Unless pehaps he's forgotten to change it back if he switched it at some time.) But would that make it unplaceable in ID?

Yes, I think that ID uses the PDF portion of the AI file.

If he had that option unchecked it would make it unplaceable in ID it would be totally AI native you could however reopen it in AI and resave it with this option try it.

Re: Why would doing a 'Save As' make AI files usable in InDesign?
Wade... that's what I did (re. the thread link in my original message).
I was just curious as to why it wouldn't place before.
As Larry said... it must be that ID uses that part of the AI file for previews since it appeared fine if simply opened in AI.
Thanks all.

Re: Why would doing a 'Save As' make AI files usable in InDesign?
As I wrote it is AI native only that way. So what your client is doing is saving space and does not understand why this should be so is not doing as you have instructed them.
And it sounds to me like they won't listen to anything you tell them in this regard. I have many clients who can't believe something and just won't accept. It is kind of amusing.
