Will Acrobat 4.0 work on OS X
We are getting ready to switch from OS 9 to OS X and I want to know if our current version of Acrobat 4.0 will work properly or if we will need to upgrade. If so, what version?
Thanks for the help!

Re: Will Acrobat 4.0 work on OS X
Acrobat 4 won't run natively in OS X. It will however run under classic. I'd suggest upgrading to 6 if you get the chance. Working out of Classic can sometimes be a pain.

Re: Will Acrobat 4.0 work on OS X
I just upgraded from OS 9.2 to OS 10.2.8. I bought the 6.0 Adobe standard upgrade and can still run Adobe 4.0 in classic mode at the same time. However, I have found that 6.0 creates documents that cannot be opened in 4.0 or 5.0 AND 6.0 will not save in an earlier version as advertised in the on-line help. I am waiting for a solution besides coninuting to use Acrobat 4.0. Be warned!

Re: Will Acrobat 4.0 work on OS X
I've now discovered (after more careful reading of the help file) that you set default file save formats (4.0, 5.0 or 6.0) in Acrobat using the Distiller tool. Sooo... you CAN save into older versions by default.
I thought I had no need for Distiller with my simple needs.
BTW - I was just packaging several pdf's into one file - they were originally created with Photoshop by someone else.

Re: Will Acrobat 4.0 work on OS X
You can save PDFs in older version by using the "Reduce File Size" feature under the File menu.

Re: Will Acrobat 4.0 work on OS X
You can also save as 4.0 or 5.0 compatible using PDF Optimizer

Re: Will Acrobat 4.0 work on OS X
In Sheldon's case he won't see PDF Optimizer as it is an Acrobat 6.0 Pro feature only.

Re: Will Acrobat 4.0 work on OS X
I am in a similar situation as Judy. I have been using Acrobat 4.05 to produce educational newsletters in pdf format on a blue/white G3 tower for a number of years, and I have not had any problems. I have figured out how to keep the files fairly small (ie. 30 pages around 600k)
I just ordered a G4 1.25 GHz machine and it should arrive shortly. My question is should I just keep using 4.05 in the Classic environment or should I upgrade Acrobat?
And if I need to upgrade, do I need the regular one or the Pro one?
Thank you in advance for your time.
