Will AppleCare of G3's go away? - Mac Portable

I am quite pleased with the new G5 power mac announcement. Logically, a G5 15" powerbook will follow, causing the iBook series to go to G4 machines and the current G3 iceBooks will be phased out. When this happens, do you think that the option of buying a new AppleCare plan for iceBooks will go away? I am aware that you can get AppleCare after you buy the machine as long as the original warranty is still in effect. Default Will AppleCare of G3's go away?

I am quite pleased with the new G5 power mac announcement. Logically, a G5
15" powerbook will follow, causing the iBook series to go to G4 machines
and the current G3 iceBooks will be phased out.

When this happens, do you think that the option of buying a new AppleCare
plan for iceBooks will go away? I am aware that you can get AppleCare
after you buy the machine as long as the original warranty is still in
effect. I have been waiting until I have something like 1 month of
original warranty left before I get AppleCare just because I prefer to
spend the money later as opposed to sooner.

Am I setting up to shoot myself in the foot with this plan? Will a phase-
out of the G3 iBook cause new AppleCare plans to not be offered?

    Thanks for any comments ...

    There's no correlation.

Not for a long time. The G5 chip is very power-hungry and runs
    very hot.

I doubt it. My expectation would be for AppleCare to continue to be
available for a given model as long as that specific model is formally
supported. (Which, I suppose, is QED.) Note that there's a difference
between "machine Q is supported" and "the latest version of the OS will
    run on machine Q."
