Default Wilted Daisy Award

I would like to put my self forward as a candidate for the 'Wilted Daisy
Award'

http://www.dw-fw-beginners.com/funfrwrks/wk092203/entries.html

After reading Lanny's post of 1/10/03 in the OT Playing with Fire book
thread started by Brendon ; this quote struck me."I have no evidence that a
single person ever used it."

I know it's always nice to get some feedback, good, bad or indifferent. So I
thought I'd give Lanny some evidence.

I presume (always dangerous) that the project Lanny referred to is Chapter 8
of the Playing with Fire Book - 'Keeping company with other software - DHTML
on a timeline. If I'm wrong you get an even bigger laugh.

So I dive in, no problem with the graphics and I learned/learnt a new trick
with the shadows and highlights. Cool, thanks Lanny.

OK so everything exported and saved onwards into DW to explore this
'Timeline' thing. How hard can it be? Well I guess for a programmer it would
be a cinch (what is a cinch?), but I guess my right/left/no brain (I'm a
little dyslexic as well) just isn't set up for this kind of puzzle, but I
will persevere.

So here Lanny is the evidence that someone somewhere did read and attempt to
put into practice your chapter in the Must have of Fireworks books.. still.

I'll get it second time around. I hope ;)

Good one, Peter! I don't think it deserves the Wilted Daisy...I would
give it a Golden Cavanaugh!

As for that tutorial that Lanny wrote about, I too, went through the
whole thing. At that time, however, I did not have any way of posting
the results for anyone to see.

I think that I will find the time to go through it this weekend and I'll
post the results. Nobody should believe that their hard work was for
naught!

Aw, shucks, Peter. Thanks <sniff>.

Trust me, it made my brain hurt to get the thing working the first time.
I'm no programmer--I had to flowchart the timelines on paper to keep
from becoming totally confused. At the time, it was at the bleeding edge
of DW3 (and my own) capability. I was, of course, inordinately proud
when it finally worked...and you will be, too.

I made the example utterly useless on purpose. I wanted folks to learn
the principles of timelines, so they could adapt the techniques to their
own projects, once aware of the possibilities. The illustration tricks
were a bonus. I hoped that PwF would be bought as a tool of empowerment,
not as a cookbook or a collection of do-it-yourself clip art. (I think
Amazon still has some copies left.)

No Wilted Daisy for you, dude. Get back in there and finish your
homework! :-)

Unfortunately, the Timeline feature has been removed from Dreamweaver
2004. If folks still have a copy od DW 3, 4, or MX, they can still do
that part of the lesson. I had a ball playing with it when Lanny wrote
it. :-)

Lanny's method of creating highlight and shadow is a lesson in itself.

You can use something like PVII's Layer AniMagic extension.
