Win 2000 in seperate network
My friend gave me a problem and i'm trying to figure out how to do
this. The network has an NT4 pdc and 2 bdcs for logon and 40 client
computers. His boss wants him to set up a windows 2000 server and two
xp cients on a seperate ip range because the tasks that this new
server will do are bandwidth consuming (gigabytes of scanner document
traffic) and he doesn't want the traffic to cross over into the entire
network and slow the network traffic down. He doesn't want to setup a
domain controller just stand alone and so these two client computers
need to authenticate with the NT4 servers in the 10.1.x.x network.
So if he set up this new win2k server with two network cards ??? one
as 192.168.10.1 and the other as 10.1.1.1 and set up the 2 xp clients
with static addresses in the subnet range of 192.168.10.1 (network
card 1 on new win2k server) with the default gateway as 10.1.1.1
(network card 2 on new win2k server) ? He says he wants to figure this
out with no DNS or DHCP on this new win 2k server. Would this allow
these two new xp computers to route across the two network cards on
this new 2k server to get to the NT4 logon server in the 10.1.x.x
network ? I'm thinking he'd have to setup DNS on this new stand alone
server to redirect to the logon server in the other network.
The main question also is does he even need to do this in the first
place is there an easier way to make sure the bandwidth (gigabytes of
traffic) of the network is not consumed if he sets up this specialized
scanning server on the same network as all the other computers in the
domain?

Win 2000 in seperate network
If he'd buy an hub or switch an plug that in the orignal
switch. If he'd plug the new server and clients into that
new switch (or hub) the data stays within that switch.
Good luck.
