Win2000 shockwave player install DLL problem
Hi Is anyone using Win2000 SP4 and get 'cannot load DLL library
system32/kernel32.dll (GetSystemWow64DirectoryA)' with the latest shockwave
player (v10.2.0.023) installation? I also able to install this same copy
through www.oldapps.com/shockwave.php but could not load any shockwave content.
Either way it's not working. Noted that the shockwave player system
requirements page said it supports Win98. Does anyone tested this - I mean
still uses Win98 and successfully install and works? Any idea if it's true that
Adobe not going to continue 32-bit OS? I have contacted Adobe support and wait
to see what they have to say.

Re: Win2000 shockwave player install DLL problem
I have the same problem with the latest version of shockwave. Using windows2000
pro. SP1 and IE6. I didn't have any problems with the older shokwave versions.
Couldn't find a way to contact Adobe to tell them.

Re: Win2000 shockwave player install DLL problem
Really don't think they care, :sad; from everything that I've read about it.
Pitty really. The only thing that I can think of doing is to let the sites
that you go to know about this maybe they can get Adobe to fix it.
If you go to the Adobe sys requirments it used to say 2k but they have since
deleted 2k from the new shockwave. Apparently this dll is for 98, XP, ect. And
you can't get the download of the previous version that did work. Whatever you
do don't remove the older version like I did or you will have no shockwave.

Re: Win2000 shockwave player install DLL problem
I got the same message this morning after agreeing to a download and install
from an update popup notice on my screen this morning. However, in spite of
that message apparently the new version of Flash was installed. Last night
flash in IE was not working, I could not get IE to display several sites or
some of the Web page I'm building and now everything needing Flash in IE is
working perfect!

Re: Win2000 shockwave player install DLL problem
You guys may find this site to be of some help
http://blogs.cnet.com/8301-13554_1-9837179-33.html
I was reading that last night but was too tired to try it then intended to do
it this morning. However, this morning I got the update notice from Adobe and
for me it seems to have worked OK even if I did get that little alert box. I
think everything got installed except that one .dll. Might be a W2K thing. I
also have W2K SP4

Re: Win2000 shockwave player install DLL problem
:sad; Neither Adobe's installer nor the Shark one works for me.
I'm running Win2k SP4 with Firefox browser. The install (either one) works
fine, but when I try to load a page with shockwave content I get a "Installing"
graphic with progress bar. It slowly fills to 100% THEN the error dialog pops
up, with the exact message seen in this thread.
[Q]Could not load the DLL library C:\WINNT\system32\Kernel32.dll
(GetSystemWow64DirectoryA).
The specified procedure could not be found.[/Q]
Any ideas??? At this point my only choice is to avoid any and all web pages
with shockwave content, 'cause I have no way to view them.

Re: Win2000 shockwave player install DLL problem
I have uninstalled the shockwave before installing the new and neither the
Adobe or the Shark versions runs. Both give "Could not load the DLL library
C:\WINNT\system32\Kernel32.dll (GetSystemWow64DirectoryA). "
Doesn't anyone know where the older versions are avalable? They worked fine
with Win 2k and IE6.

Re: Win2000 shockwave player install DLL problem
I was getting this error also. The KB said to uninstall older versions. I
uninstalled Shockwave and now my PC will not boot up. I'm getting a blue screen
of death, system stop error. Just great.... (yeah I'm on a different PC now)

Re: Win2000 shockwave player install DLL problem
:disgust; And it just keeps getting better.....
Not only can I find NO MENTION of this problem in "offical" Adobe support
pages, I followed the "Bug Report" link from the official support site last
night and entered all the details. Got the delivery failure notice in my
email this morning. Forwarded that to support@adobe.com and got an immediate
response informing me that it was an unmonitored, automatic address and I
should go to the web site instead....
:mad; Here's to the fine quality of support from Adobe. :wine;
Fortunately (no thanks to Adobe) I did manage to find an OLD copy of Shockwave
8.5 at
http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/default/english/win95nt/8.5.1.106/S
hockwave_Installer_Full.exe
The page I found it on had v10 and suggested it for Win 2000, but that link
hits Adobe's main download page, which gives v11, not v10. The v8.5 link
(above) is required for "other" legacy windows versions according to that page,
but seems to work fine with Win2k.
After uninstalling the failed v11, this one installed and worked fine for me.
'Course there's no support for anything added since v8.5, but it's a whole
lot better than the nothing Adobe's offered up.

Re: Win2000 shockwave player install DLL problem
Thank you boB_527 so much. After uninstalling the non-working Adobe version
(and Shark version too) and downloading the old version 8 everything is fine.
Strange a company like Adobe doesn't test the software before they send it out!

Re: Win2000 shockwave player install DLL problem
Glad I could help, dra-klaus.
Yeah, it is a pity they didn't do a little more testing... Odd that it's
been almost 2 months since the first report here and there's still been no
official recognition of the problem or a solution offered....
Guess they're buying into the Micro$oft line of upgrade into incompatibility
every three years just to keep the money flowing in. Win 2k is "too old" to
be considered support-worthy, despite the fact that it's one of the more stable
Windoze versions out there. [ Which isn't saying a lot, but does say
something.... ]
The real b*tch of it is, even if they do an upgrade that fixes it, I'll
probably never see it cause I'm having to constantly say "No" to the auto
upgrade dialogs already.

Re: Win2000 shockwave player install DLL problem
I found old shockwave player versions at http://www.filehippo.com/download_shockwave/.
I removed version 11 and installed 10.2.0.023.
After that things worked OK.

Re: Win2000 shockwave player install DLL problem
I Had the same problem on a computer at work that use to run shockwave but
quit. I found out that 2000 can not run version 11. What I did was to
download the shockwave uninstaller, Run it then go to file hippo and download
the oldest version. That is (filehippo.com). If you are not familiar with
them they offer the newest release and on a column to the right older releases.

Re: Win2000 shockwave player install DLL problem
Since shockwave player 11 cannot run on windows2000 (as buddyroo also found out), using an older version seems the better solution to me.

Re: Win2000 shockwave player install DLL problem
Does anyone know how to stop a web site from automatically downloading the new
shockwave whenever you visit site? Yahoo Games and a couple of other sites keep
doing this to me so that I cannot go to those sites because of this stupid
version 11 crap. I have spent a week of frustration on my computer doing
everything I can to find this error and fix it only to have discovered these
forums tonight and find out it can't be fixed lol. Right now I have deleted
all traces of shockwave from my pc and registry and am going to filehippo and
get my old one back...thanks to you guys.
