Win2003WE/IIS6.0 and CFMX6.1
I'm about to set up an application that may eventually host several thousand
sites (all off one code folder) and have a couple of questions about IIS's
abilities to deal:
1. How many domains can IIS 6.0 handle? I've seen reports of 5.0 being
comfortable with 750 and barely making it with 1800. I'm assuming 6.0 is
better, so I would assume it's faster and capable of managing more domains?
2. If all or most of the sites were actually sub-domains of a main domain (ie;
joey.mydomain.com, sally.mydomain.com) would it be better to tell IIS that
*.mydomain.com is in a particular folder, thus minimuzing the number of domain
entries? Would that help the server?
3. Is it possible to manage the domains directly through the core XML files,
thus avoiding the APIs? Would an IIS reboot be required using that method?
Thanks,
Michael
