Windows: Clearing the Read Only attribute

Posted: 09-18-2003, 08:14 PM
Found this very handy free little tool (422 KB download) courtesy of PC World's latest issue. Once installed it allows you to clear ALL the read only attributes after copying back from CD. It adds the option to Windows right click context menu for folders. Just use Elements File, Open. Right click the folder and choose "Clear Read-Only Attributes" and you're done.

I'm on XP but it claims to go all the way back to 95.

You can get it at "find.pcworld.com/37469" (scroll down to CROA) or, preferably, directly from the author at:

Really saves a lot of grief after reloading a few dozen files from CD.
