windows desktop has no color after installing Illustrator

I was hoping that someone can give me some advice as to why my windows 2000 desktop (and all other programs) turns to black and white after I installed Illustrator. If anyone can let me know how to fix this problem I would really appreciate any help. Thanks

You have a bad monitor profile.

Re-run Adobe Gamma from Control Panel and select sRGB as your starting
profile. Make sure you change the text in the Description box, follow the
on-screen instructions and then SAVE TO A NEW FILENAME (or you will
over-write your existing sRGB profile!)

I have did everything you advised with no luck, I even tried using other settings in the gamma calibrator again no luck. Could I be doing something wrong?

DS,

It's just possible that your video card doesn't support loadable gamma ramps
or that 'calibration' software that was installed along with the video
driver is conflicting with Adobe Gamma.

More detail on your system would be helpful...
