If you are wanting to install Linux it is better to not format or
create a windows partition but leave free disk space for the
Linux installation. You will make ALL linux partitions during the
    install.

    Hi,

I install WinXP on a laptop and then Mandrake 9.1 on it.
This distrib is very useful to modify the WinXP partition initially created.
But be carefull, save your all datas on the WinXP side.

1°) After the WinXP installation, make a full defrag of your disk with XP.
    2°) Reboot.
3°) Make a carefull scandisk (it can take several minutes).

4°) Put your Mandrake Install CD and begin installing Mandrake.
5°) Choose use "free space on NTFS partition" to re-partition your NTFS disk
    without any problem.
    6°) Install Mandrake.
    7°) Reboot.
8°) Choose WinXP => it will make a scandisk automatically.

You've WinXP and Mandrake on the same machine.

    Hope this help.
