Default Wireless Ubunto 5.10

Hello

I have been trying to get the wireless card (DWL-G650+) going on Ubuntu
5.10, according to the instructions on the mediawiki of the ndiswrapper
page (http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/mediawiki)

I've downloaded the driver and have installed the following files with
ndiswrapper -l

Airplus.inf
Radio0d.bin
radio11.bin
radio15.bin
wlangen.bin
airplus.sys

When I do a ndiswrapper -l, I now get the following
airplus driver present
airplus.sys invalid driver!
radio0d.bin invalid driver!
radio11.bin invalid driver!
radio15.bin invalid driver!
wlangen.bin invalid driver!

depmod -a does not return a message,

modprobe ndiswrapper however gives the following message:

FATAL: Error inserting ndiswrapper
(/lib/modules/2.6.12-10-386/kernel/drivers/net/ndiswrapper/ndiswrapper.ko):
Operation not permitted

Any thoughts on what to do from here very much appreciated.

Norbert

sudo modprobe ndiswrapper, however, does not give an error message. Still,
the card won't be recognised.

I am fighting the wireless battle myself. I have a DWL-650 PCMCIA card
for my laptop. I used the Windows driver and did get it installed, but
could never get a link. I finally gave up for a while, but played with
it a bit more yesterday, got a link, and a strong signal, but still
could not connect to the Internet. I am going out of town this weekend
and will try the wireless at the motel. Hopefully, I will be able to get
it to work. I am trying to sell my daughter that I am visiting on Linux
and would hate to have to boot Windows to get wireless.

If I learn anything I will try and let you know. We use different
drivers, I think, but the process is similar. My card is recognized, but
I think I have an encryption issue. Good luck. Wish I could have been
more helpful, but I have only been using Ubuntu for a couple of months,
but that is all I now use. I will not buy another Microsoft product.

Hello,

For you Greg it might be an encryption issue. I have an old DWL-650+ card
and a DI-714P+ router; and I found out that the valid wep key in the
router's configuration page must be at the top of the list. When validating
the second to fourth key, all gets messed up and there's no connection
possible under Linux (MDV 2006 here) whereas under Win, any of the four
keys from the list would do the job... really funny.

As for the configuration problem, I had similar problems on MDK LE2005,
until I changed to MDV 2006. Regularly I had to reconfigure wlan0 by
entering a "new" driver. In the end nothing worked any more.

It might also be that it is not an ACX100 chip inside your card... If it is
really a G650+ it might have an Atheros chipset which needs the madwifi
driver. Also two sort of DWL-G650+ cards seem to exist: the one with
Atheros chip labelled on the box (classical blue and white box), and the
newer sets without any information (dark red, blue and white box).

I think a madwifi driver deb package or source code can be obtained from
sourceforge. What I saw when searching infos on Atheros for MDV/MDK, seemed
as it would be a little bit hairy to install and configure madwifi...

Ciao @+

I would advise you and all who read that the best wireless hardware I
have used is Netgear! Both the pcmcia and pci wireless cards work fine
on install of 'Breezy'. Simply configure the cards using the Breezy
networking app that is standard with Breezy. Make sure you enter the WEP
key and then choose 'Hex'. I have had no problems at all and really am
happy with Netgear.
