Word 2000 - Excel Charts in file with Y Axis Label as a "bitmap" to PDF - Adobe Acrobat Windows

We received Word 2000 doents that contained excel charts with the Y Axis Label created as bitmaps - not sure why the client did this; however, when we created a PDF file from these files (Acrobat 4 or 5 Distiller), the Y Axis Label was "blacked out". When opening the excel chart, it appeared that the Y Axis label contained two bitmaps over the Y Axis title. Default Word 2000 - Excel Charts in file with Y Axis Label as a "bitmap" to PDF

We were able to delete the first bitmap, then create a PDF file and the Y axis then did appear.

Would there be any setting in Distiller to alleviate the step of opening the excel chart and deleting the extraneous bitmap?

In addition, when the Word file was sent to a HP5SI printer, the Y Axis label was black.

When the Word file was sent to a HP8 printer, the Y Axis label printed correctly.

    Any ideas?

Default Re: Word 2000 - Excel Charts in file with Y Axis Label as a "bitmap" to PDF

    Two possible solutions-

    1. Use a Type1 or OpenType font for the axis labels, instead of TrueType.

    2. When inserting the chart into Word, use an EPS file instead of copying
    and pasting the chart.

To do that, open the program where the chart was created (Excel). Print the
chart to Distiller but first: set the PostScript output option to
"Encapsulated PostScript" (look in "Print properties/Advanced"), set a
custom page size to match the chart dimensions, and check the "Print to
file" option. When you print Excel will create an EPS file that can be
inserted into Word. Word may convert the EPS image in order to display it
onscreen and for printing on non-PS printers, but when you print to a PS
device (including Distiller) the original EPS data will be used, and it is
    the best you can get.
