Did anyone ever respond to this post? I am having the same problem with power point files (extension .pptm).

one more thing: After I have published the page, when I select the file
Contribute gives me an error message: "This file cannot be displayed in the
Contribute web browser. You may be able to edit this type of file with another
application. Edit your Contribute preferences to specify an application."
I can't for the life of me find any Contribute preferences that list file
    extensions.

If I right-click on the link and choose "Open link in new window" I get the
404 error - even though the URL in the error window is pointing to the EXACT
    path of the document.

Please go to Edit -> Preferences, File Editors in the left and check if the
extension what you are specifying is added. Else try adding the extension with
editor that you want to edit the file.

please get back if you have any questions

    Thanks
