Working with DLXS templates in DW

I am at a loss.

I went through the following tutorial in order to edit DLXS templates in
Dreamweaver (.tpl extension files):

However, after completing the tutorial, and doublechecking my code,
Dreamweaver will still not recognize .tpl extensions at all.

Is this tutorial completely bogus, or am I missing something vital?

I have noticed that DW now has an option to create a new .tpl file; however, it still does not recognize the .tpl files created via Smarty that are already in the site's root folder.
