When you say "photo printer" it sounds like it doesn't have
PostScript -- few consumer inkjets do. It is strongly recommended
that you get a PS printer or, if available, a software RIP for your
current one, to make the most of FreeHand's capabilities. Without PS
you're essentially printing a screenshot; although the resolution can
be improved over what you see on your screen by cranking up the
display-quality options, you won't be outputting the actual vector
objects you draw -- in fact your TIFF export is very similar to
what's being sent to the printer instead.
