Write Japanese in InDesign
I'm using InDesign 2.0 and Windows XP (with japanese language installed).
If I use MS Word (version 2000) or open office,
I can easily write japanese (as well as many other languages with
non western characters). I switch to Japanese keyboard, and type.
But if I do that with InDesign, strange western characters are placed
where japanese characters should be.
I tried to switch the Windows environment to japanese, but it didn't work.
I tried to switch the internationalization of InDesign to Japanese, and
I got all menus in Japanese, but still couldn't write japanese in the
documents.
If someone knows how to solve this, please email me.
I'm sbVB (Sergio Barbosa Villas-Boas)

Re: Write Japanese in InDesign
sbVB,
Use Windows IME to compose Japanese text in MS Word. Copy then paste into InDesign text container. If necessary, select pasted text and change to appropriate Unicode font -- e.g., Arial Unicode MS, MS Gothic, MS Mincho. Kozuka Mincho and Gothic OT fonts included with ID2 also work for me.

Re: Write Japanese in InDesign
Did you figure out how to get Japanese text to work vertically (not just horizontally, as in Western languages), or does one have to have a Japanese operating system for that?

Re: Write Japanese in InDesign
You can tile a bunch of one character wide text frames together to get your vertical text effect.
I know...this is... oh forget it.
