Write permissions issue with multiple user access - Macromedia Director Basics

Hi, Just want to know if anyone else has experienced this and knows the reason why. A multi movie program is installed on a network drive and the stub projector is accessed by several PCs running on different flavours of windows (98, 2000 etc.). The program files are set to ?Read only? - as always - to allow multiple users to have access to the same movies. Default Write permissions issue with multiple user access

    Hi,

Just want to know if anyone else has experienced this and knows the reason why.

A multi movie program is installed on a network drive and the stub projector is accessed by several PCs running on different flavours of windows (98, 2000 etc.). The program files are set to ?Read only? - as always - to allow multiple users to have access to the same movies. Despite this, when actions on different PCs are synchronised so that movies are accessed simultaneously, the following error is frequently experienced ...

'Failed to access ?path & file name? due to write permissions by another user'

Why does this error occur when the files in question are Read only?

The movies can be dxrs or dirs (all Dir 8.5) - seems to make no difference.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Is the error coming from the OS or the projector? Can you test it with a
different .exe (e.g. notepad)? What's the server OS?
